1. What we collect
SemaWrite collects only what it needs to turn your spoken words into a manuscript:
- Account identity: your email address, and the subject identifier from your Apple or Google sign-in.
- Voice recordings: the audio you record in the app.
- Transcripts and manuscripts: the text and structure derived from your recordings, including a story-state graph describing your novel’s chapters, scenes, characters, and open questions.
- Purchase and subscription state: managed through RevenueCat and the App Store.
- Product analytics events tied to your account: sign-in, onboarding, processing, and purchase-funnel events. These are linked to your account identity; they are not anonymous, and they exist so we can see where the product loses people.
- On the website only: first name and email signups with optional survey answers and campaign (UTM) parameters and consent evidence.
- Public-site analytics, only if you allow it: Google Analytics receives public page paths, page titles, approximate location, and browser or device information. It does not receive your email, account identity, recording, manuscript, project title, or checkout details.
2. What we do not do
- We don’t sell your personal data, recordings, or manuscripts.
- We don’t train AI models on your manuscript.
- SemaWrite staff do not review your recordings or text unless you ask for support or give us specific consent.
- The app contains no third-party advertising SDKs.
3. Who processes your data
- Supabase: hosting, database, and storage. Recordings live in a private bucket accessible only to your account.
- Groq: Whisper Large v3 Turbo transcribes your recordings.
- OpenAI: GPT-5.6 Luna organizes your transcripts and detects story gaps. API data is not used to train OpenAI models. OpenAI may retain API inputs and outputs for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring. Authorized personnel or confidential service providers may access that data only when needed for abuse investigation, support, or legal compliance. SemaWrite has data sharing disabled and sends every request with storage turned off.
- RevenueCat, our payment providers, and app stores: subscription state, checkout, and payment processing, depending on where you purchase. The payment provider is named at checkout before any charge. If you request a refund on an App Store purchase, we report your hours-used at the time of the request to Apple, so its refund review reflects your actual usage.
- Vercel: website hosting.
- Google Analytics: optional measurement on public marketing and legal pages after you choose to allow it. Advertising storage, advertising personalization, user-provided data, and Google Signals are disabled. You can change this choice from the website footer.
4. Free-taste integrity
To keep the 30-minute free taste to once per person, we retain a one-way hash of your Apple or Google account identifier after account deletion, solely to prevent repeat free-taste claims. The hash cannot be reversed into your identity.
5. Retention and deletion
Your content is kept for as long as your account exists. Deleting your account in the app removes your audio files, transcripts, manuscripts, and account rows. Two things are retained after deletion: the one-way free-taste hash described above, and anonymized billing records kept for accounting.
Waitlist details are kept only for the launch update a person agreed to receive. If an address unsubscribes, bounces, or complains, SemaWrite keeps that address on a suppression list so future outreach exports cannot send to it. We do not treat an old signup as consent to a broader email program.
6. Security
Everything travels over encrypted connections. Audio is stored in a private bucket with per-user access rules. On the web, pending audio is also stored temporarily in your browser's IndexedDB until transcription or discard. Session tokens use protected, secure cookie storage in the browser and the device keychain in the mobile apps.
7. Your rights
You can access and export your manuscript from inside the app at any time, and delete your account, and everything in it, from Settings. Every launch email includes an opaque unsubscribe link that writes directly to the suppression list. For anything else about your data, write to support@semawrite.com and we’ll help.
8. Children
SemaWrite is not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. If we learn we have, we’ll delete it promptly.
