1. Who we are, and what you’re agreeing to
SemaWrite is a voice-first novel-drafting app: you speak your story, and SemaWrite transcribes and organizes your own words into a manuscript. By creating an account or using the app, you accept these terms. If you don’t agree with them, please don’t use SemaWrite.
2. Your writing is yours
You own everything you make here: every recording, every transcript, every line of manuscript text. SemaWrite does not add prose you did not speak. We claim no rights over your work beyond what is technically necessary to store and process it for you.
3. Subscriptions
SemaWrite offers auto-renewable subscriptions billed through the store where you purchase. Web purchases are billed by the payment provider named at checkout, while mobile purchases are billed by the applicable app store. Each tier includes a monthly allotment of recording-processing hours: Starter includes 5 hours, Steady includes 10 hours, and Prolific includes 25 hours per month. Optional top-up hours can be purchased separately and are only ever an explicit, opt-in purchase, never a silent charge.
You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in Profile or the store that billed you. Unused included hours don’t roll over between months; purchased top-up hours persist until you use them.
4. Refunds
Refunds cover unused hours, not hours you have already spoken into a manuscript. Once a purchase has been meaningfully used, it is final.
Web purchases are billed through Stripe and refunded by us directly. Request a refund within 14 days of purchase at support@semawrite.com; we refund the unused portion of your hours for that purchase.
App Store purchases are refunded by Apple, not by SemaWrite; we cannot issue or override Apple’s decision. To help its review reflect your real usage, we report how many hours you had used at the time of your request. Start a refund request through Apple.
Top-up hours follow the same rule: unused top-up hours are refundable within the window above; used hours are not.
5. The free taste
Signing in with Apple or Google grants 30 free minutes of recording processing, once per person. Creating accounts to farm free minutes is abuse, and may result in suspension.
6. Acceptable use
Don’t use SemaWrite for anything unlawful, and don’t attempt to disrupt the service, circumvent its limits, or reach other users’ private data.
7. Processing and availability
Transcription and organizing run on third-party AI services. We aim for the service to be reliable and accurate, but it is provided “as is” and “as available,” without a warranty of uninterrupted service.
8. Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from Settings inside the app. Deletion removes your recordings, transcripts, and manuscript data from our systems.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, SemaWrite and its founders are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the service.
10. Changes to these terms
If these terms change in a way that matters, we’ll tell you through the app or by email, and post the updated terms on this page.
